The Route

Overview

The Lemosho Route is widely considered the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro, approaching the mountain from the remote western side through pristine wilderness that few other trekkers experience. The extra day compared to Machame means better acclimatization and a higher summit success rate — our groups achieve 90%.

The first two days traverse the Shira Plateau, a high-altitude plateau with sweeping views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. This gentle start allows your body to adjust gradually before the steeper sections begin. Wildlife sightings — including buffalo and elephant — are possible in the lower forest sections.

From Shira, the Lemosho merges with the Machame Route at Lava Tower, following the same excellent acclimatization profile through Barranco and Karanga camps to Barafu for the summit attempt. The summit day follows the same Stella Point route to Uhuru Peak.

This route is ideal for trekkers who prioritize scenery and success rate over budget, and who have the extra day to spare.
